Doctors are testing new "medicine" for psoriasis

This year during the spring time she started to use new product imported to Europe from Australia. It helped Mrs. Prstkova get rid of the symptoms of this insidious disease. It has got a real healing effect even proven by dermatologists. It means hope for many people – there are about 300 thousand people suffering from psoriasis in the Czech Republic.

For twenty five years Mrs. Marie Prstkova refused to wear shorts skirts during the summer time. What was the reason? Her legs were covered in big ugly red flakes – psoriasis. "I also could not do my hair nicely, because my hair looked as if I had hardened egg white in it," she describes.

However, doctors remind us that SORATINEX (Dr Michaels) products are more suitable for chronic forms of psoriasis, not for the acute forms.

That has even been proven by a new study that took place in hospitals all over the Czech Republic and was based on the experience of more than two hundred patients.

The product is not classified as medicine, but as cosmetics. More specifically healing cosmetics - this is what they call a product line of Skin Care Gel, Skin Care Oil and Skin Care Cream in other countries.

"I have to admit, I was very sceptical. After all, it is only an alternative method. However, I was very surprised with the results," says one of the leading Czech dermatologists, Prof. Frantisek Novotny. The products had been working with more than 80 % of my patients." Prof. Novotny has already been using this method for three years. "In some cases the patients have remained healed and without symptoms for over a year," he says.

For many patients this is a great result. "I was treated with corticosteroids and also photo-therapy. But this kind of treatment must be often discontinued for some period of time. Therefore my psoriasis came back after two to three months," explains Ondrej Tichota from Melnik. Now he has been without any symptoms for four months.

However, other doctors still keep a safe distance when judging these products. "I have heard from patients very enthusiastic opinions in regard to these products helping them. I myself rather prefer the traditional methods," says dermatologist Dr. Monika Arenbergerova. She is afraid that the good results may not last long enough. In any case, she is sure that these cosmetics based on natural elements can do no harm, either. According to paediatric dermatologists the products are even suitable for children.

Since these products are classified as cosmetics and not medicine, patients have to pay for the set of product themselves.

"To me that was a small price I had to pay regarding the fact that I got rid of my psoriasis", says Ondrej Tichota.

What is psoriasis: It is an incurable disease, when the skin renews seven times faster than usual. Psoriatic patients have red flaky spots on their skin. The disease is a huge emotional burden as well: psoriatic patients are afraid to go out and meet other people, very often they are depressed and sometimes even contemplate suicide.

Treatment of psoriasis: There are many ways and methods of how to fight psoriasis. Patients can get treated by corticoids and photo-therapy. However, hormonal treatment has many bad side effects and therefore can’t be used for a long time period. SORATINEX (Dr. Michales) products are mainly based on natural elements and consist of plant oils.
